UPDATE (7/23/2024): Canadian Travel Requirements Starting 8/1/2024

The Centers for Disease Control and US Department of Agriculture/APHIS are imposing new travel requirements for dogs and cats returning from low-risk rabies countries, including Canada, effective August 1, 2024. Formal documentation from the CDC will be required to re-enter the United States.

In order to re-enter the US with your dog, you will need to:

  1. Complete the CDC Dog Import Form yourself and print it out to carry with you when you travel;
  2. Your dog must be at least 6 months old, healthy, vaccinated for rabies, and microchipped.

(NOTE: The APHIS-approved certificate generated by a veterinarian is no longer needed, this requirement has been removed.)

For more details on requirements (including microchipping and timing of rabies vaccination) for these forms, please review our complete instructions on Requirements for Canadian Travel.

Outside Pharmacy Prescription Writing Fee Begins Monday, June 24, 2024

Effective Monday, June 24, 2024, GAVC will begin charging clients a $7 record-keeping fee for prescriptions to non-MVSO online pharmacies.

Exceptions are limited to prescriptions that cannot be obtained via GAVC or its online pharmacy, MVSO, and for prescriptions sent to brick-and-mortar stores which require the client to manually pick up the prescription. We encourage clients to check prices at MVSO, as medications there are often cheaper than many online pharmacies. Nonetheless, if a medication is otherwise avialable through the clinic or MVSO, a $7 fee will need to be paid via phone prior to approval of the script with the outside online pharmacy.

To avoid this fee, we encourage clients to order their prescriptions through MVSO.
